Frequently Asked Questions

Quick Pitch Biz Plan Competition

Promoting the Quick Pitch Biz Plan Competition

The Jacobson Institute for Youth Entrepreneurship sponsors two annual Quick Pitch Biz Plan Competitions for any Iowa high school student with an idea, innovation or existing business.

Students don’t need a business background to compete - they need motivation, passion, and a good idea. They can compete using a new or existing business/invention/innovation idea OR build off an innovation developed from an existing program, for example:

  • First Tech Challenge
  • A World in Motion
  • Fabulous Resources in Energy Education
  • First Lego League
  • Kid Wind

When Are the Quick Pitch Competitions Held?

The Quick Pitch competitions are held in the fall and spring ($4,500 cash prizes are given away each semester)!

Following the spring Quick Pitch, a final round competition is held determining the Statewide Quick Pitch prize winner. The final round competition is limited to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prize winners from the fall and the spring. Competitors vie for an additional $1,000 prize.

Who Should Participate?

ANY Iowa High School Student with an idea, innovation, or an existing business.

During an academic year, students who receive 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place in the fall cannot compete in the spring. Students who receive either Honorable Mention or do not place can compete in the spring (using the same idea or a new idea).

(Note: The competition starts over each school year, meaning that all students are eligible to compete regardless of whether they previously received a prize (using the same idea or a new idea).

How Do You Compete?
